Our Clinical Staff
CHRISTINE CHILDS, MD
Dr. Childs is a Board Eligible Psychiatrist specializing in Adult Psychiatry. She did her undergraduate studies at North Carolina State University and her medical training at Wake Forest University. She then completed an internship and residency at the University of Arkansas. She enjoys seeing patients with a wide variety of psychiatric situations.
A.RICHARD COOK, PhD
Rick Cook is a therapist who works in an eclectic style, using techniques from several theraputic modes depending on the specifics of the problem. He is also trained in classic cognitive behavioral therapy. He did his undergraduate studies at Claremont McKenna College, before completing his studies for a Masters Degree and PhD in Psychology at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. Rick also enjoys being very involved with his church, traveling, and exercising.
TEVEN HARMON-TOWNSEND, MSW, LCSW
Teven Harmon-Townsend began her career in biology and pharmacology. After her two sons were in school and Teven returned to the workforce, her interests had changed. She earned a second Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. For the past 20 years she has worked in a variety of settings including the classroom, the Children’s Home, Hospice, and most recently leading the In Home Services Team in Davie County. Teven has now joined our practice and specializes in therapy with adults, children, teens, and families.
MARY LADD HEBERT, MSW, ACSW, LCSW
Mary Ladd Hebert is a therapist who specializes in Individual and Marital Therapy. She has practiced in Winston Salem for the past 20 years. She earned her Masters in Social Work degree from UNC Chapel Hill. Mary Ladd also has completed postgraduate training under internationally known clinicians in the areas of anxiety, depression, and marital and relationship therapy. She is married and has three children and two grandchildren.
TOMMIE JACKSON, LCMHC
Tommie Jackson is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who draws from several different theory bases according to the patient's situation. She holds a Master's Degree in Divinity from Southern Theological Seminary, with a concentration in Patoral Care & Counseling and received her NCBLCMHC in 1995. Tommie treats both children and adults. When she's not working, Tommie enjoys spending time with her dog, Earl, and her daughter and granddaughter.
JAMES D. MATTOX, MD
Dr. Mattox is a Board Certified Psychiatrist who has practiced Psychiatry in Winston Salem since 1975. He recieved his undergraduate degree and his medical degree from Wake Forest University. He did his residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital before joining the faculty of Wake Forest University Department of Psychiatry. In 1978 he joined Salem Psychiatric Associates and practiced there until 1987 when he founded New Directions. He has served as Medical Director of the Adult Unit of Charter Mandala Center. His primary clinical interest is the treatment of Bipolar Disorder.
Our Office Staff
LORA WHITT
Lora manages our office staff as well as helping out with just about everything else.
CLARK LARSON
Clark works in our insurance office and helps at the front desk when needed.
